Jawbone Holler

Perry Adams leaves his Indiana hometown to escape a lonely, harsh upbringing. He steals his father's mule and heads for Kansas Territory to become a squatter. He struggles through brutal weather and many misadventures while establishing firm friendships with a local constable, a pair of freed slaves, and other memorable characters, eventually fighting in a Civil War battle and meeting the love of his life.
